Thomas Duryea Logicalis Launches Project Management as a Service

27-Aug-2018

Thomas Duryea Logicalis (TDL), a leading provider of global IT solutions and managed services, has launched its Project Management as a Service (PMaas) offering Australian organisations a flexible approach to scale up and down on external expert resources during ongoing digital transformation programs.

TDL works on more than 250 client engagements at any one point in time and provides a range of certified ITIL, PRINCE2 and PMP certified project management professionals to meet client requirements.

Australian IT departments have traditionally experienced a scenario where external project management expertise has been onboarded for extended periods of time when no internal resources can be identified. This can be both time consuming for client management and an expensive exercise when fees have been negotiated on a daily rate for projects which may not necessarily require ongoing support.

“Our new PMaaS offering will provide public and private sector organisations with specific, tailored project management skills at the clients’ moment of need. Onboarding is fast and flexible and our service sets out for success by establishing project goals, a delivery plan, reporting guidelines, robust governance and the ability to scale with project momentum. This will be both cost-effective and provide the flexibility required to meet client outcomes. Ultimately, it will also enable CIOs to add further value to the business, said Ian Evans, National Practice Manager – Project Management Office, Thomas Duryea Logicalis.

An early adopter of TDL’s PMaaS offering is Bakers Delight. The company’s Chief Information Officer, Edward Fitzgerald, said, “Bakers Delight requested TDL’s specialist PMaaS to help deliver a data centre migration project, something our Project Management Office (PMO) had not undertaken previously. TDL’s involvement reduced many potential risks to the project and enabled us to benefit from using the skills and expertise of qualified individuals who had worked on similar projects before.

“Our projects tend to ebb and flow so the PMaaS allowed us to draw on the right amount of effort on any particular day, or even disengage during quieter times. A better utilisation of resourcing led to significant cost savings for Bakers Delight when compared to our usual project delivery resourcing model of hiring contract project managers when our PMO lacks specific skills or capacity. TDL’s professionalism and diligence, including their high level of reactiveness and communication, is greatly benefiting this project.”

Last month, TDL was recognised as an ABA 100 Winner in The Australian Business Awards 2018 for Project Management affirming the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovative business processes.

Commenting on the accolade, Evans said, “At TDL, our PMaaS is about selling the outcome to clients we were thrilled to win this award. Moving forward as an industry we’ll see an even greater requirement for innovation and for a ‘rent’ as you need offering. Indeed, when you’re not using the skills of a project manager, they lose their value and organisations are becoming more aware of that cost. Just as with digital transformation itself, a business needs to adopt an entirely new operating model in project manager resources that allows both the business and CIO to build, innovate and deliver on stated objectives together.
“Digital transformation is a process that may never be finished so working with an organisation which can offer PMaaS is appealing to CIOs who may well need to change their overall approach to resource management as their journey continues.”
